The Amparo Museum is a discrimination-free environment that welcomes all visitors, who, individually and in groups, are subject to these Regulations.

  • Why is the Amparo Museum called that?

    It was named in memory of Amparo Rugarcía de Espinosa Yglesias, wife of Manuel Espinosa Yglesias, founder of the museum.

  • When and by whom was the Amparo Museum founded?

    The Amparo Museum is a private museum founded on February 28, 1991, by Manuel Espinosa Yglesias and his daughter Ángeles Espinosa Yglesias Rugarcía through the Amparo Foundation, with a commitment to preserve, exhibit, research, and disseminate pre-Hispanic, viceregal, modern, and contemporary art from Mexico.

  • What are the opening hours of the Amparo Museum?

    The museum is open Wednesday through Monday from 10:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m. It is closed on Tuesdays.

  • What are the opening hours of the museum café, library, and gift shop?

    The Museum Café is open Wednesday through Monday from 10:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m. It is closed on Tuesdays.

    The Shop is open Wednesday through Monday from 10:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m. The catalog can be viewed at:  museoamparo.tienda/mx, with shipping throughout Mexico and anywhere in the world.

    The Library is open for consultation Monday through Saturday, except Tuesday, from 10:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m.

  • Are you open on holidays?

    The Amparo Museum is open every day, including holidays, except Tuesdays. On December 24 and 31, it is open from 10:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m., and on December 25 and January 1, from 2:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m.

  • How much does it cost to enter the museum?

    The admission fees for the Amparo Museum are as follows:

  • What exhibitions can I visit today at the Amparo Museum?

    In the Exhibitions section, you can find the current program for the Amparo Museum.

  • How long does it take to visit the Amparo Museum?

    The Permanent Collection of Pre-Hispanic Art, Viceregal Art and 19th Century Art, and Contemporary Art can be viewed in approximately one and a half to two hours, while each of the Temporary Exhibitions requires a minimum of 30 minutes.

  • Do you have parking?

    The museum does not have parking; however, there are several public parking lots in the surrounding area, very close to the museum.

  • Is there a place to park bicycles?

    Yes, on 2 Sur, right at the museum entrance.

  • Are there facilities for people with disabilities?

    We have elevators or ramps on all levels, wheelchairs and folding benches available free of charge at the cloakroom, and adapted restrooms for those with mobility issues. We recommend using the elevator for people with reduced mobility, pregnant women, people with respiratory illnesses, and older adults.

  • Can I use the elevator?

    The elevator is available for use by all our visitors.

  • Do you have a cloakroom service?

    Yes. Backpacks of any size, umbrellas, balloons, tripods, flowers, packages, toys, etc., must be left in the cloakroom.

  • Does the museum have restrooms that can be used by anyone, regardless of gender identity?

    Yes, the museum has a gender-neutral restroom located on the third floor.

  • Can any space in the Museum be rented for an event?

    The Auditorium and Terrace are available for rent, depending on availability and the nature of the event. For more information, please contact: https://museoamparo.com/renta-espacios

  • Are there guided tours?

    Yes, guided tours can be in person or online, and they are all free of charge. For more information and reservations, please write to: [email protected].

    On Saturdays and Sundays, free guided tours are offered at 12:30 p.m. for the Permanent Collection and at 4:30 p.m. for the Temporary Exhibitions.

  • How can I book a guided tour?

  • What activities does the museum offer for school groups?

    The Amparo Museum has a School Program that offers various activities for educational institutions from preschool to high school, such as: In-person and online tours, online tutorials and activity booklets. For more information, see the Education Program section.

  • What activities do you have for children?

    We offer themed guided tours for children through the Pre-Hispanic Art Collection. We have two exploration booklets for/by the Pre-Hispanic Art Galleries and the Viceregal and 19th-Century Art Galleries (available only in Spanish). You can request them at the visitor service desk.

  • Where can I find the dates for Noches de Museos?

    The Noches de Museos Program is offered once a month on weekends and is usually linked to public holidays. For more information, please consult the program on the Amparo Museum website, in the Activities section.

  • What is Amparo Plus?

    Amparo Plus is a mobile app that contains audio, video, and playlists related to the Permanent Collection and Temporary Exhibitions. With this app, you can take a tour narrated by artists and curators, thereby enhancing your museum experience. 

  • How can I download the Amparo Plus app?

    The Amparo Plus app is free to download and available in the iOS and Android app stores.

     

  • How can I get the Timeline?

  • Where can I purchase the museum exhibition catalogs?

  • How can I consult the Library catalog?

  • Can books be borrowed to take home?

    The Library does not offer an at-home borrowing service. It provides the following services: on-site consultation of materials, film library, photocopying and printing services, local and national newspapers, and free Wi-Fi.

  • How can I access the lectures presented at the Amparo Museum?

    The lectures are available for viewing at: https://museoamparo.com/multimedia and at the Museum Library.

  • Is it possible to complete social service or professional internships at the Amparo Museum?

    Yes, the Amparo Museum offers a Social Service Program, which includes professional internships and volunteer opportunities. For more information, please email: [email protected].

  • Why is it necessary to maintain a distance of 16 inches (40 cm)?

    To prevent accidents and avoid damaging the artworks, it is recommended to maintain a distance of 16 inches (40 cm) in all exhibition rooms. This helps protect and preserve the integrity of the pieces.

  • Why can’t I touch the artworks?

    For conservation reasons. Continuous handling can damage the artworks over time, including from the dirt and oils naturally present on hands.
    Any damage caused is irreversible.

  • Can I use flash photography?

    For conservation reasons, flash photography is not permitted, as continuous use can cause irreversible damage to the works.

  • Are animals allowed?

    Animals are not allowed, with the exception of guide dogs.

  • Is breastfeeding allowed inside the museum?

    Breastfeeding is allowed throughout the museum as it is a right of mothers, girls, and boys. For the convenience of our visitors, benches are available in the galleries and courtyards.

  • Are diaper bags allowed?

    Diaper bags that comply with the maximum size recommendation of 35 x 40 centimeters are allowed.

  • Are strollers allowed inside?

    Strollers are allowed inside the museum. Security personnel will invite you to leave them at the entrance to the galleries for a smoother visit, except in the Viceregal Art and 19th Century Art Galleries, where they must be left at the entrance to this area for easier movement and care of the spaces.
